This week’s reading- 2 Corinthians 3-4

Something that is very interesting and revealing, is to listen to people talk about their plans for the future, regarding career goals, financial dreams, or retirement ideas. All too often what is missing (or referenced as an after-thought) is God’s purposes and desires. This is easy to slip into because we live in cultural environment that celebrates self-interest and personal fulfillment. However, as followers of Jesus we have a higher calling. We have been given new life through Jesus, and we now have the awesome responsibility and privilege to live our lives fully for Him: This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT). This new life means that we all have important work that God wants to do through us while we are here on planet earth.

Some think this work is mostly for pastors and church staff, but the reality is that we are ALL called by God to ministry. He is ready to use us at every age and stage in our life. All that is required, is for us to accept His calling, and trust Him to equip us to accomplish everything He has for us to do. Rather than be intimidated by this, we can adopt Paul’s mindset: “It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant.” 2 Corinthians 3:5,6 (NLT)

Think about it, God has enabled you and me to impact players in His work, to help others discover a personal relationship with Jesus. As you think about that and make plans, always keep this in the front of your mind and heart – God has called you to be His partner in the most important work in history – helping others find His love and forgiveness. Let’s make sure our plans are mostly about Him. There is nothing more important or more rewarding than this!
