This week’s reading- Genesis 1, John 1, Genesis 2, Colossians 1

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

This year, we are following the Redemptive-Historical Bible Reading Plan, where we see evidence of Jesus as our savior throughout God’s story. We don’t have to look for too long because we can find Jesus right at creation. John 1: 1-4 reads:

“In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him, all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”

The Holy Spirit was also with God the Father and Jesus at creation. Verse 2 of Genesis 1 says that “the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” The Holy Trinity existed before God had spoken anything into being and The Father, Son and Holy Spirit were in perfect unity. Incredibly, this is the time that we were chosen by God:

“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.” Ephesians 1:4

Pause for a moment and take Ephesians 1:4 in. God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to rescue us, His creation, out of our sin.

What is your response to knowing that you have not just been created, but you have been chosen by God? Does it mess with a poor opinion of yourself? Does it lead you to want to repent? Are you overcome with thankfulness? It does not matter if you have been a Christian for many years or a few days; knowing the truth of who we are to God changes how we think, act, and feel.

Jesus prays for all believers in John 17: 20-26. Let these words be an encouragement to you today, whatever your day has in store.

“Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and I myself may be in them.” John 17: 25-26
