Apr 28: Weekly Reading- The Resurrection; The Astonished & Insight Post by Kim Feld
Weekly Reading: Matthew 28:1-10, Mark 16:1-8, Luke 24:1-12, John 20:1-10
Monday Reflection
The Power of the Resurrection: The resurrection of Jesus is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. It demonstrates God’s power over death and His promise of eternal life for all who believe. This victory over death assures us that no situation is beyond God’s ability to redeem.
Monday Verse
But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For He raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:4-6 (NLT)
Monday Questions
How does the power of the resurrection impact the way I live my life today? What areas of my life need to experience God’s resurrection power?
Monday Insight Post
by Kim Feld
18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.
19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 1:18-20 (NLT)
One of the reflection questions for today in our Bible Reading Plan is, “What areas of my life need to experience God’s resurrection power?” This question struck a chord with me and reminded me of the verses in Ephesians chapter 1 that I shared above. Paul tells us in this letter to the church in Ephesus that the same mighty power that raised Jesus from the dead lives within those who are followers of Jesus. This is a mind-blowing concept!
Paul uses the word “understand” twice in these verses. He prays that we would understand the “confident hope” or assurance we have been given through Jesus and the “incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe in Him.” This confident hope is not just wishful thinking, but a secure and optimistic belief in what is to come. Jesus’s resurrection was a game-changer, and Paul’s prayer is that we would fully understand what is available to us as a result.
Surrender is a big concept we keep discussing during our weekly Monday night Bible Study and Prayer events. It comes to mind once again as I contemplate the reflection question and wonder why I still have areas that need to experience resurrection power, even after walking with Jesus for the majority of my life. If I’m honest, there are still areas that I struggle to fully surrender.
Death has to occur for resurrection to be possible. When I look at the negative coping strategies that I have continued to cling to, I clearly see that for Jesus’ resurrection power to be unleashed, the negative strategy has to be put to death by surrendering it to Jesus. Some examples of negative coping strategies are rigid control, avoidance, over-/under-eating, workaholism, substance abuse, negative self-talk, isolation/withdrawal, and self-harm. The process of surrender is ongoing, not a one-time event – it is intentionally choosing to surrender over and over. The good news is that freedom can be found through the resurrection power of Jesus Christ.
I’m pondering these things today and hope you will join me. Jesus’ resurrection was an incredible display of God’s power over the power of death. While our enemy came to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10), Jesus came to give us freedom (Galatians 5:1).
