This week’s reading- 1 Kings 11-13, Luke 4
In our walk with God, we all face moments when we face temptation, and if you are like me, we sometimes wonder if we’re strong enough to resist. Well, guess what? We’re not alone in this struggle. Jesus faced Satan himself, and He did it with Scripture.
Luke 4:1-13 tells us Jesus was out in the wilderness for forty days to fast and pray, and who shows up? None other than the devil himself. What happens is a lesson for us on what to do when dealing with the spiritual battles in our lives.
Every time Satan tempted Jesus, Jesus responded by saying, “It is written,” and then quoting some truth from the Scriptures (Luke 4:4, 8, 12). This highlights why it’s so important for us to know our Bible. When we have God’s Word in our hearts, it’s like having a shield against the enemy’s lies and temptations. I’m not talking about mindless repetition. It is about making it a part of who we are. Memorizing it equips us to respond swiftly and confidently when temptation comes knocking.
Just like Jesus defeated Satan in the wilderness, we can overcome the challenges in our lives by relying on the Scripture. So, go ahead, stand strong, and say, “Not today, Satan.”
