August – Service

Service is the practice of putting love into action by meeting the needs of others. It reflects the heart of Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve. Through service we learn humility, compassion, and the joy of giving ourselves for the good of others. This month we focus on service as a way of living out God’s love in everyday life.

Week of August 10- Week 32

Reading:

13You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. 14And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. John 13:13–15 (NLT)

Jesus, the Lord and Teacher, served His disciples by washing their feet. He calls us to follow His example of humble service.

Reflection Questions:

1.    How does Jesus’ example challenge your view of leadership and service?

2.    What would it look like for you to “wash the feet” of others today?

3.    How does humble service bring people closer to Jesus?

4.    What holds you back from serving in simple, practical ways?

5.    Who is one person you can serve with humility this week?

Why this matters for life today:

God calls us to love others through service. When we use our lives this way, we discover a deeper purpose that fills us with joy and satisfaction. Jesus modeled this sacrificial service for us.

Take it Deeper:

  • Jesus loved us and sacrificed for us when we didn’t deserve it.

2Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. Ephesians 5:2 (NLT)

  • Jesus said his mission was to serve and rescue us.

45For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many. Mark 10:45 (NLT)
