August – Service

Service is the practice of putting love into action by meeting the needs of others. It reflects the heart of Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve. Through service we learn humility, compassion, and the joy of giving ourselves for the good of others. This month we focus on service as a way of living out God’s love in everyday life.

Week of August 31- Week 35

Reading:

10God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. 1 Peter 4:10–11 (NLT)

God equips each person with gifts for service. When we serve with His strength, our lives point to His glory.

Reflection Questions:

1.    What gifts has God given you to use in service?

2.    How can you use your gifts to bring glory to God?

3.    What does it mean to serve with God’s strength and not your own?

4.    How can you encourage others to use their gifts in service?

5.    What step will you take this week to use your gifts in service to others?

Why this matters for life today:

Using your spiritual gifts to serve others matters because it builds up the church, glorifies God, fulfills our God-given purposes, and reflects Christ’s own service. It’s about being good stewards of God’s grace for the good of others.

Take it Deeper:

  • God gives each person unique gifts to use as part of the body of Christ. Every part is valuable and necessary for building up the church.

27All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it. 1 Corinthians 12:27 (NLT)

  • Spiritual gifts are meant to be used faithfully to serve the body of Christ.

6In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So, if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Romans 12:6–8 (NLT)
