July 13: Weekly Focus

July – Submission

Submission is the practice of yielding our will to God and placing the needs of others before our own. It is not about weakness but about trusting God’s authority and choosing humility. Through submission, we learn to follow Jesus’ example of obedience, letting go of pride and control. This month we focus on submission as a path to freedom, peace, and deeper love for God and others.

Week of July 13- Week 28

Reading:

⁵In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 1 Peter 5:5 (NLT)

Submission is rooted in reverence for Christ. It shapes how we treat one another in love, humility, and respect.

2.    What does mutual submission look like in your daily life?

3.    How can submission build stronger relationships in your family or community?

4.    What keeps you from practicing mutual submission?

5.    What step can you take this week to submit to others out of love for Christ?

Why this matters for life today:

When we value others above ourselves, we are showing the world how God loves us. People will be intrigued by our example and want to know our God. Serving others, showing compassion, and recognizing everyone’s inherent dignity as created in God’s image, aligns with Jesus’ teachings to love your neighbor.

²¹And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. ²²For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. ²³For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. Ephesians 5:21–23 (NLT)
