July – Submission

Submission is the practice of yielding our will to God and placing the needs of others before our own. It is not about weakness but about trusting God’s authority and choosing humility. Through submission, we learn to follow Jesus’ example of obedience, letting go of pride and control. This month we focus on submission as a path to freedom, peace, and deeper love for God and others.

Week of July 6- Week 27

Reading:

4Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. 5You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. 8When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Philippians 2:4–7 (NLT)

Jesus submitted Himself fully to the Father’s will, even to the point of death. His humility shows us the true heart of submission.

Reflection Questions:

1.    What stands out to you about Jesus’ example of submission?

2.    How does humility help us live in submission to God?

3.    In what areas of life do you resist yielding control?

4.    How might following Jesus’ example change the way you relate to others?

5.    What step of submission could you take this week to honor God?

Why this matters for life today:

Jesus’ submission models how we should trust God’s will. When we are aligned, we are free to live out God’s ultimate purpose for our lives with courage and grace.

Take it Deeper:

  • Jesus submitted to the Father’s will even when it led to His painful death on the cross.

39He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Matthew 26:39 (NLT)

  • Jesus showed humility by washing His disciples’ feet. This was a model for all of His followers.

14And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. John 13:14-15 (NLT)
