Easter gives us the greatest reason of all for celebration. Jesus came for us, He died for us, and He rose from the dead so that we could have a relationship with Him. Sin separated us from God, resulting in a chasm that couldn’t be crossed without someone paying the price for our sin. That someone is Jesus. He paid the debt that you and I never could. If we have accepted Him, choosing to receive His gift of dying in our place, we are assured of forgiveness and connection with Him now, and eternal life to come.

There’s an old hymn that I grew up singing in church. We always sang it on Easter Sunday, and I love the reminder the words give to me. The hymn "He Lives" was written in 1933 by a Presbyterian minister, Alfred H. Ackley. You may be unfamiliar with the song, but take a few minutes today to read over the words and celebrate our risen Savior.

He Lives (Alfred H. Ackley)

I serve a risen Savior, He’s in the world today;
I know that He is living, Whatever men may say;
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer,
And just the time I need Him He’s always near.

He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me, and talks with me
Along life’s narrow way.
He lives! He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives:
He lives within my heart!

In all the world around me, I see His loving care,
And though my heart grows weary I never will despair;
I know that He is leading Through all the stormy blast,
The day of His appearing Will come at last!

He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me, and talks with me Along life’s narrow way.
He lives! He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives: He lives within my heart!

Rejoice, rejoice, oh Christian,
Lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!
The hope of all who seek Him,
The help of all who find,
None other is so loving, So good and kind!

He lives, He lives,
Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me
Along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives: He lives within my heart!
