May – Simplicity 

Simplicity is the practice of clearing away distractions so we can focus more fully on God. It is not about living with less for its own sake but about choosing what matters most. Simplicity helps us loosen our grip on possessions and busyness, making room to treasure God above everything else. This month we explore simplicity as a way of finding freedom and joy in living for God’s Kingdom.  

Week of May 11- Week 19

Reading:

15Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.” 16Then he told them a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. 17He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’ 18Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods. 19And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”' 20But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’ 21Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” Luke 12:15–21 (NLT)

Jesus warns us not to measure life by possessions. Simplicity is about valuing a rich relationship with God over wealth or comfort.

2.    How does greed pull you away from God?

3.    What does it mean to have a rich relationship with God?

4.    How can simplicity free you from worry about possessions?

5.    What step could you take to practice simplicity in daily life this week?

Why this matters for life today:

We often think contentment will come when we finally get what we want. But true contentment is learning to live in peace whether we have a lot or a little. That kind of freedom cannot be bought, and it changes how we see everything else.

  • Chasing wealth never satisfies because it always leaves us wanting more.
