May – Simplicity

Simplicity is the practice of clearing away distractions so we can focus more fully on God. It is not about living with less for its own sake but about choosing what matters most. Simplicity helps us loosen our grip on possessions and busyness, making room to treasure God above everything else. This month we explore simplicity as a way of finding freedom and joy in living for God’s Kingdom.

Week of May 18- Week 20

Reading:

6Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. 7Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6–7 (NLT)

Simplicity of heart comes when we trade worry for prayer. God offers peace to those who trust Him with their needs.

Reflection Questions:

1.    What worries make it hard for you to live simply?

2.    How can prayer replace worry in your life?

3.    How have you experienced God’s peace when you trusted Him?

4.    How does gratitude shape a life of simplicity?

5.    What does this passage show you about God’s care for you?

Why this matters for life today:

Life gets complicated when we are always chasing more. Choosing simplicity reminds us that we already have what we need. When we let go of endless striving, we open up space for gratitude and generosity.

Take it Deeper:

  • Jesus offers rest to those who take His yoke upon them. He invites us to find spiritual renewal and peace for our souls.

29Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light. Matthew 11:29–30 (NLT)

  • Our circumstances shouldn’t dictate our joy. As Paul teaches, we can be content when we rely on Christ’s strength.

12I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. Philippians 4:12 (NLT)
