May 25: Weekly Focus

May – Simplicity
Simplicity is the practice of clearing away distractions so we can focus more fully on God. It is not about living with less for its own sake but about choosing what matters most. Simplicity helps us loosen our grip on possessions and busyness, making room to treasure God above everything else. This month we explore simplicity as a way of finding freedom and joy in living for God’s Kingdom.
Week of May 25- Week 21
Reading:
31“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:31–33 (NLT)
Jesus teaches us that simplicity comes from trusting God to provide. When we seek His Kingdom first, our lives are ordered by what truly matters.
Reflection Questions:
1. What are the things you tend to worry about most?
2. How do Jesus’ words challenge you to trust God more?
3. What does it mean for you to seek God’s Kingdom first?
4. How might simplicity help you live with greater trust?
5. What step could you take this week to put God’s Kingdom first in practical ways?
Why this matters for life today:
We live in a world that tells us more is always better. Jesus warns us that life is not measured by our stuff. Living simply helps us focus on relationships, purpose, and the joy of knowing we already have enough.
Take it Deeper:
- Trust in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
3Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. 4Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. 5Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. Psalm 37:3–5 (NLT)
- Set your heart and mind on things above, not on earthly distractions.
1Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand 2Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. Colossians 3:1–2 (NLT)
