May – Simplicity

Simplicity is the practice of clearing away distractions so we can focus more fully on God. It is not about living with less for its own sake but about choosing what matters most. Simplicity helps us loosen our grip on possessions and busyness, making room to treasure God above everything else. This month we explore simplicity as a way of finding freedom and joy in living for God’s Kingdom.

Week of May 4- Week 18

Reading:

19Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Matthew 6:19–21 (NLT)

Jesus calls us to invest in what lasts forever. Simplicity shifts our hearts from clinging to temporary treasures toward seeking eternal ones.

Reflection Questions:

1.    Where do you see yourself storing up earthly treasures?

2.    What does it mean for you to store treasures in heaven?

3.    How does simplicity help your heart align with eternal values?

4.    What might God be asking you to release so you can follow Him more fully?

5.    How does this teaching of Jesus inspire you to live with joy and purpose?

Why this matters for life today:

People often pursue money, recognition, or material possessions, which may not endure over time. Simplicity is about focusing on what really matters. When our hearts are set on what lasts forever, life feels lighter and more meaningful.

Take it Deeper:

  • Contentment with godliness is a greater wealth than possessions.

6Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. 7After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. 8So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. 1 Timothy 6:6–8 (NLT)

  • God promises to never leave us, so we can live free from the love of money. His constant presence and support sustain us through any circumstance.

5Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5 (NLT)
